No need to worry about the weather putting a damper on the photo session, I will travel* to you with my portable studio lights and backgrounds, from the comfort of your own home we can have full control of the conditions for the studio session. Your pet is in their own environment, allowing them to be comfortable and relaxed, without unexpected distractions ( Squirrel ! ).
What to expect on the day of the studio session:
On arrival I will have a quick check of the intended room for the photo session, then we will introduce me to your pet and let them get familiar with me. I will bring in the studio equipment and set up, at this point we will introduce your pet to the equipment and let them get comfortable. We will then see if there are any reactions to the lights being used and make sure your pet is relaxed before proceeding to making images.
Depending if your pet is fully command trained, treat or toy focused, we will chose the best method to keep your pet’s attention on the camera during the photo session. If we are using treats, keep in mind to adjust their food intake on the day to account for getting extra treats, please make sure to have your pets preferred treats available. The smaller the treat size the better, due to the volume of rewards given during the session.
To avoid over stimulation and distractions during the photo session, please keep the people present in the room to a minimum ( preferably 1-2 people ).
How long does it take?
The whole session can take between 1.5 to 3 hours, including set up, the session itself and tidy up. The variation in the times for the session depends on how much time your pet needs to be comfortable and relaxed during process and if small rest periods are necessary. How responsive to commands and directions your pet is during the session can also have an impact on the overall time. There may be other factors such as background colour changes.
Requirements:
For best results the pet owner will need to have control over their pet.
I will need access to a plug socket and space to set up background and light stands, this may require moving some furniture. Roughly 8ft x 8ft of clear space. I have previously set up in kitchen diners with the table removed, in apartment sitting dining rooms with the table moved aside and in large sitting rooms. Ideally widows or glass doors would have blinds or curtains to control external light sources.
Do you have a favourite place or environment to spend time with your pet, whether it be your garden, in a park or woods. This type of photo session allows you to get that perfect environmental portrait of your pet. I will travel* and meet you on location with my camera equipment and we can go exploring and creating images.
What to expect on the day:
I will meet you at the pre-arranged location, introduce myself and let your pet get familiar with me and the the surrounds of the location. We will have a wander around the location and find points of interest and areas suited to making images. Once your pet is relaxed and comfortable in the environment, we will proceed to making images.

At the mercy of the elements:
Please consider that with on location photo sessions, we will be at the mercy of the elements. Weather conditions can have a big impact on ground conditions, light levels and choice of clothing ( have boots and jackets just in case ). If you have just had your pet washed for the big occasion, having them splash through puddles and muck might not be what you intended, although it could lead to some fun images, consider bringing towels and a brush. Time of day is also worth considering, mid afternoon on bright sunny days can produce harsh lighting conditions, these can be worked with but far from ideal. The weather is not the only consideration for an on location photo session, please consider if it is a public location, what would be the quietest time to be there to avoid over crowding and distractions.
How long does it take?
The whole session can take between 1.5 to 3 hours, including scouting locations, the session itself and returning to the point of arrival. The variation in the times for the session depends on how much time your pet needs to be comfortable and relaxed during process and if small rest periods are necessary. How responsive to commands and directions your pet is during the session can also have an impact on the overall time.
Requirements:
Permission to access the intended location if the area is not for public use. For best results the pet owner will need to have control over their pet, this is especially necessary in outdoor locations, shared by other members of the public and environments where unexpected distraction can occur ( Squirrel ! ). In public or open spaces, if you do not have full voice command and recall control of your pet, I would suggest a long lead and collar to maintain control of your pet. The collar and lead can be removed later in post production ( I would not suggest the use of harnesses on the day of the session).
